Both the state and defense have rests in the trial of Chancey Luna, Thursday afternoon. Closing arguments will be Friday, and then the jury will decide the verdict.

Thursday, investigators and the medical examiner presented the latest evidence to jurors.

One Duncan Police Detective testified that when police search Michael Jones' car the day Christopher Lane was murdered, they found 104 bullets inside.

The detective then stated that all appeared to be live rounds and no blanks were found. This is key because, Luna's friend, James Edwards, testified he heard Luna say to Jones, “I thought the bullets were blanks.” And Jones said, “Me too, I'm sorry.”

Gunshot residue (GSR) was also a factor in court Thursday.

The state had testimony saying GSR was found on Luna's right hand.

The defense argued GSR is easily transferred and could have gotten on Luna from the arresting officer.

One of the state's final witnesses was the medical examiner. She testified that Lane's wound was small yet fatal because the bullet went through the main artery, damaged every major organ, and most of the bleeding was in the chest cavity.

But the last to take the stand was Chancey Luna's mother, Jennifer. After being asked to leave the courtroom two day ago because she's on the witness list, she was called in and asked one question by the defense.

“Do you love Chancey?” She responded, “With all my heart.”

But to her that one question wasn't enough to keep her out of the courtroom this entire time.
