Luther Schools Band Director Suspended

The Music Director at Luther High School and Middle School has been suspended. Police said the investigation involves a 12-year-old girl.

Superintendent Dr. Sheldon Buxton has confirmed he suspended Kyle Whitmus a few days ago.

Luther Police Sergeant Michael Oliver said the Department of Homeland Security has seized cellphones belonging to Whitmus and the girl. “I can't disclose what's in them, but we are looking at cellphone bills, cellphone records, and what came off the cellphones. Uh just some inappropriate stuff,” he said.

Kyle Whitmus is a 2006 graduate of East Central University. The Luther School District's website said he also earned a Master's degree from OU in 2009, where he performed with “The Pride of Oklahoma.”

Oliver said it “will be a while” before the case is handed over to the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office.
