A judge's ruling striking down the “no guns” policy at this weekend's Norman Music Festival will stand after the Oklahoma Second Amendment Advocacy's civil suit was continued on Thursday.
The continuation effectively freezes last Friday's ruling, in which a Cleveland County judge decided the City of Norman cannot order the police department to enforce a "no guns" policy at the Norman Music Festival, beginning April 23.
Lana Cohlmia, an attorney representing the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association, told News 9 musical festival organizers have every right to request guns be left at home.
"They have a right to say, 'Please do not bring your gun.' It's about whether or not the City can enforce that request. It's a request, it is not a law," Cohlmia explained last Friday afternoon.
Although the civil suit was continued, the fight is not over. An evidentiary hearing set for May 1 could change the policy for future festivals.
The Oklahoma Second Amendment Advocacy Group is asking anyone who sees someone carrying a firearm and drinking at the festival to report it to police.
