It happened just before 2 p.m. Tuesday in the 2800 block of W. Park Pl. Officer Eller and field training officer Sgt. Michael Lambert arrived as a home was being burglarized. Nobody was there at the time except the two suspects, Tremaine and Jermaine Williams, who are twin brothers.

Police said one suspect was already gone and the one who was still there took off, and while chasing him, the two officers were separated.

Officer Eller caught Jermaine Williams in a nearby driveway. That's where Jermaine Williams wrestled away the rookie officer's baton and hit him over the head with it, causing a large gash.

Police said despite the injuries to his head, Officer Eller managed to get back up and continue to chase the suspect.

Both suspects were eventually taken into custody.
