Cleveland County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a head-on collision that killed an elderly Lexington man Sunday morning.
Emergency crews responded to the wreck about 10:15 a.m. Sunday in front of 14005 Banner Road in Lexington.
During a preliminary investigation, deputies learned that Travis Bentley, 49, Lexington, was driving a 2014 Ford F-150 eastbound on Banner Road when it appears the pickup traveled left of center and struck a westbound 2006 Mercury sedan head-on.
The driver of the Mercury, Ellis Risenhoover, 80, Lexington, died at the scene from massive injuries, deputies said.
Risenhoover's passenger, Imogene Risenhoover, 76, Lexington, was injured in the crash. Imogene Risenhoover was airlifted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City for treatment.
Bentley was the sole occupant in the pickup. He was transported by ambulance to Norman Regional Hospital for minor injuries and later released.
Sheriff Joe Lester said the CCSO Collision Reconstruction Unit was activated and responded to the crash. This wreck is the third fatality collision that the team has investigated since April 19.
“Three people have unfortunately lost their lives on county roads in less than a month,” Lester said. “I urge everyone to be careful anytime you get in a vehicle and behind the wheel. Please remember inattentive driving can lead to tragic consequences.”
