As torrential rains continue to pound on Oklahoma, emergency officials are urging caution in flooded areas.

FEMA officials said floods do more than damage properties. They can also threaten lives if careful safety precautions are not followed in a flood event. More than half of flood-related deaths occur in vehicles, emergency officials said. This sparked the adoption of the slogan, “Turn Around, Don't Drown.”

Experts believe floodwater can be deceptive. Water is almost always deeper and faster than it looks. Six inches of water can knock an adult over. And two feet of water can carry a car away.
