OHP: 13 Rescued After Being Trapped In Cabin Near Broken Bow Due To High Water

Emergency crews rescued 13 people who were trapped in a 2-story cabin due to the high water near Broken Bow, Oklahoma, on Monday.

According to The Oklahoma Highway Patrol, just before 4:30 p.m. Monday, all 13 people were rescued by boat safely. No one was injured.

OHP said troopers responded to the scene Monday morning to help with the water rescue of 13 people, including 10 adults and three children. They were trapped in a 2-story rental cabin on the Mountain Fork River southeast of Broken Bow in McCurtain County.

One of the people in the cabin posted photos of the flood water surrounding their cabin.

Authorities said the water level continued to rise.

According to CBS affiliate KSLA, Broken Bow fire and rescue crews attempted the water rescue using a jet boat, after two failed attempts using other less powerful boats in the swift-moving water.

When all those attempts failed, authorities said a National Guard helicopter was called in to airlift the people trapped in the cabin.
