Emergency crews are responding to an explosion at a salt water injection well in Hammon, Oklahoma, Friday afternoon.
According to a spokesperson with the corporation commission, a lightning strike may be responsible for starting the fire at the Hammon 1-6 well. The well is owned by Overflow Energy out of Pampa, Texas.
According to authorities, residents within a quarter of a mile near the injection well are being evacuated due to the fire. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has also shut down State Highway 33 in the area.
An inspector with the corporation commission is out at the scene.
