State troopers chased cattle on a highway after a semi truck carrying the cows turned over. It happened around 4 a.m. Sunday on State Highway 16 between Bristow and Shamrock in Creek County.
That stretch of roadway was closed to all but local traffic for over six hours after the wreck.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said cattle as many as 40 cows were loose in the woods. Early reports indicate there were at least 75 cattle in the trailer. We don't know how many were killed.
Troopers and Bristow Police worked to round the cattle up before dark. Roadblocks were set up on either side of the stretch of road.
Troopers believe unsafe speed on a curve contributed to the wreck, but the investigation is in its preliminary stages.
