Wednesday will mark the third visit President Barack Obama has made to the state of Oklahoma during his tenure as president.

Wednesday will mark the third visit President Barack Obama has made to the state of Oklahoma during his tenure as president.

His first visit to Oklahoma was in March 2012, when he went to Cushing.

During the invitation-only speech, Obama discussed the Keystone XL pipeline and his support of pipelines and refineries.

In May 2013, Obama’s second visit was a more somber event.

Days after the EF-5 tornado killed 24 people, the President visited tornado-ravaged sites in Moore, including Plaza Towers Elementary School.

He visited with first responders and storm survivors who lost their homes to the tornado and offered his prayers for the people of Oklahoma.

According to the White House, Obama will visit Durant to discuss expanding economic opportunity for communities across the country, including the Choctaw Nation.

The President will visit the Federal Correctional Institution El Reno on Thursday, making him the first president to visit a prison while in office. During that visit, Obama will be interviewed by Vice, an investigative journalist outlet, for a television special scheduled to air on HBO this fall.
