Local members of a national veterans organization say they want to help guard area military recruiting stations.
One of them stood outside a Navy recruiting station in Yukon on Monday, and the other stood outside a Marine recruiting station on Tuesday.
They say they are just trying to do small part to help protect recruiting stations, in light of what recently happened in Chattanooga, Tennessee, recently.
Neither one wanted to give News 9 their name, but one of them said “If it need be, I’ve lived a good life. I’ll throw myself in front of the bullets, because these men and women deserve a chance. They’re giving it all, they’re giving their all, for them just to be here sitting targets is unacceptable.”
Later Tuesday night, one of those former Marines called News 9, and told us he was approached by an officer at the Marine Recruiting Center at 4130 NW Expressway.
He told News 9 that the officer told him he was not welcome on the property, and was told that the police had been notified, and that he should leave.
News 9 is trying to confirm this with a Marine Corps. public affairs officer.
