Firefighters say two men - one on crutches - escaped an overnight car fire. Tulsa Fire Department got the call of the vehicle fire near Apache and 145th East Avenue around 3:30 a.m.

They found a Chrysler 300 on fire. The gas tank exploded, so firefighters had to back off and wait for the fuel to burn itself out.

Catoosa police told News On 6 the driver and a friend were northbound on 145th East Avenue when they smelled something burning. The passenger opened the glove box, and flames shot out.

The driver pulled over and both men got out of the car. The passenger was on crutches, so the driver helped him get away from the Chrysler as it burned.

Firefighters didn't yet know the cause of the fire, but the car was a total loss.
