A recent fish kill along Crutcho Creek in southeast Oklahoma City has area residents asking question and demanding answers.

Angela Perez lives in Meridian Sooner Mobile Home Park near Tinker Air Base. Crutcho Creek runs right behind her mobile home.

She said last Thursday the creek had risen two feet, even though it had not rained recently. The water was a dark red, and smelled like sulfur.

By Friday the smell was much worse, and dead fish, snakes and turtles were turning up in the creek, Perez said.

She called News 9 and the DEQ.

“If there’s a company or something like that happening that’s poisoning our creeks … these creeks go into our lakes, we need to keep them clean and healthy,” she said.

A DEQ spokesperson told News 9 Tuesday one of their investigators found dead fish in the creek on Friday, but was unable to find the source of contamination, if there was any.

Oklahoma City sent an investigator out Tuesday afternoon to take samples along the creek.

A public works spokesman told News 9 they were going to be monitoring the situation.
