3 Dead, 5 Injured In 'Inmate Disturbance' At Cimarron Correctional Facility In Cushing

Three people are dead and five others were injured Saturday evening at the Cimarron Correctional Facility in Cushing, the Corrections Corporation of America reported.

About 4:40 p.m., prison staff stopped an "inmate disturbance" in a single housing pod. The facility was placed on lockdown. The details of the "disturbance" were not released Saturday.

Three inmates were killed and five inmates were taken to local hospitals for treatment. No prison staff were injured during the incident, the Corrections Corporation of America reported.

Local law enforcement and the state Department of Corrections were notified. The incident is being investigated.

No names were released Saturday. 

The Cimarron Correctional Facility is a private prison owned by the Corrections Corporation of America. The prison has 1,720 beds and houses medium and maximum security male inmates for the state Department of Corrections.
