A truck hauling honey bees has reportedly rolled on Interstate 35 just south of Pauls Valley in Garvin County, Tuesday afternoon.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) troopers were called out to the scene shortly after 1 p.m. The semi tipped while negotiating an on-ramp onto SB I-35 near mile marker 72. The rollover spilled bees out onto the highway.
The total number of bees is not known at this time, but millions are estimated to have escaped!
Authorities are working to gather up the bees at this time. The condition of the driver is not known.
Traffic on SB I-35 is backed up at least four miles while crews work to wrangle up the insects.
The driver was treated and released.
Several beekeepers came and got as many bees as they could Tuesday night, but the rest of the bees will be gotten rid of. The Pauls Valley Fire Department will conduct a large, controlled burn to get rid of the remaining bees.
