Oklahoma State (10-0, 7-0) came from behind to beat Iowa State 35-31 on Saturday in Ames. Here's some instant analysis, stick around for more coverage.
What it means
OSU’s Big 12 and National Title hopes are still alive. The Cowboys weren’t sharp, but give credit to Iowa State. The bad news here could be if the closeness of this game hurts OSU in the eyes of the College Football Playoff committee. The Cowboys felt a lack of respect last week, so who knows what could happen this time around.
What went well
There’s an unquantifiable toughness about this OSU team. The Cowboys just find a way, regardless of circumstances. OSU dug deep and outscored the Cyclones 13-0 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.
What didn’t
For the third time this season, OSU’s defense struggled early and often against a subpar opponent. They get a pass this time, however, for surviving the trap game.
Game ball
J.W. Walsh gets the hardware this week. The gadget QB only threw twice, but the latter came at the biggest moment of the night. Walsh hit Jeff Carr for a 7-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter to give OSU a 35-31 lead. Walsh also ran for 29 yards and two scores.
What’s next
OSU hosts the biggest game in college football next week. The Cowboys will face Baylor, which would decide the Big 12 title if Baylor beats Oklahoma tonight.
