Judge Lifts Stay Against City, Extends Stay Against Holtzclaw In Civil Lawsuit

The civil lawsuit filed by the women who accused a former Oklahoma City police officer of assaulting them can go forward against the city.

However, the lawsuit against the former police officer, Daniel Holtzclaw, is on hold until April 21, 2016. 

A stay was issued for the civil lawsuit until the criminal case against Holtzclaw concluded. 

Holtzclaw was found guilty Dec. 10 on 18 out of 36 felony charges. He was accused of sexually assaulting 13 black women in northeast Oklahoma City, the area he patrolled. 

The jury recommended up to 263 years in prison.

The judge ruled that the stay for the civil lawsuit against Holtzclaw will be extended until after his sentencing hearing has occurred and until after the deadline for Holtzclaw to file a motion for a new trial and/or file an appeal expires which is April 21, 2016, according to the court document.

The judge ruled the stay against the City of Oklahoma City to be lifted immediately.
