Oklahomans Start Petition To Stop Turnpike Expansion

A petition drive to halt state plans to extend the Oklahoma Turnpike is gaining traction in Northeastern Oklahoma County.  Governor Mary Fallin and the Turnpike Authority announced the nearly $900 million expansion three months ago. 

Turnpike Spokesman Jack Damrill said it will be late spring or early summer before planners decide what the specific new routes will be.

Amber Polach’s family has lived on Northeast 150^th Street between Luther and Harrah Road for nearly 70 years. It’s an area rumored to be involved in the turnpike expansion.  She said adding on to the turnpike is ridiculous.

“Oklahoma doesn’t need another Turnpike, OK? We have ten turnpikes in this state, with this, six additional loops that brings us to 16. We’re a state of four million people,” said Polach.
