About two weeks ago, President Barack Obama announced plans to take executive action on gun control.
One of those measures is to end “the gun show loophole" where non-licensed dealers can sell guns without a background check.
“To sell a used gun is like selling a used car to me,” gun owner Pat Briscoe said. “It's infringing on our rights as the Second Amendment."
Obama is moving ahead with new gun control measures.
Part of his plan will require background checks and licensing for people who are in the business to sell guns at local gun shows.
"Until we have a Congress that's in line with the majority of Americans, there are actions within my legal authority that we can take to help reduce gun violence," Obama said.
Briscoe says he sometimes sets up a table at gun shows to sell his firearms.
“It's probably the most safe place to do a transaction," Briscoe said.
He's worried if stricter gun control measures get enacted, gun sales would move underground and away from places where safety measures and record keeping are already in place.
“That's no different than me selling you my truck,” he said. “You know what I mean? It's your personal property.”
A majority of people selling and buying guns at shows are federally licensed dealers who already are required to perform the background check.
“Limiting guns, or the way people buy guns, is not going to solve the problem,” gun dealer Shelly Handleman said.
Handelman is a licensed dealer and expects the new measures will stop people who don't have licenses from selling guns at shows.
"I hope it doesn't get as bad as like California, where if you want to sell your friend a gun, you have to go through a licensed dealer and do a transfer,” she said. “That I think is a waste of time and an awful lot of money.”
Obama says he also wants to hire more ATF agents to enforce gun laws and increase funding for mental health treatment.
