MWC Police: Woman Lied About Shooting, Killing Ex-Boyfriend

Midwest City police released new information in connection to the death of a man who was shot and killed after he reportedly broke into his ex-girlfriend's home and attacked her. 

According to police, 18-year-old Jenice Jackson admitted to lying to authorities after reporting she shot her former boyfriend insider her home early Thursday morning.  She said she did not tell the truth out of fear.

Jackson, who lives in the 9600 block of Willow Wind Drive, originally told police that her ex-boyfriend, 20-year-old Isaiah DeAnutuann Orange,  forced entry into the house and was armed with a handgun.  Jackson’s mother, who is owner of the home, was at work at the time of the incident.

Jackson stated she was in her bedroom when Orange came in and started assaulting her.  Orange also pointed the weapon and threatened bodily harm.  According to the 911 call and initial interviews, Jackson said, “I shot him!”   When officers arrived on scene, they found Orange dead in the home from gunshots.  Orange also had a loaded .45 caliber handgun next to him that had been reported stolen out of Lawton.

Investigators said they were unable to locate the gun used by Jackson and she could not explain its whereabouts.  Later in the day, Jackson admitted to Detective Lonnie Bray that she was actually in her home with her new boyfriend, Alex Brown, 18.  Jackson said Brown had come over earlier in the evening and they both were sleeping in her bedroom when Jackson woke up to a strange sound. 

Seconds later, Jackson said Orange came into the bedroom waving the gun, threatening to kill both Jackson and Brown.  Jackson said Brown was concerned about the past tumultuous relationship she had with Orange and brought his own weapon to the home for protection.  As Orange was physically assaulting Jackson and pointing the gun at both, Brown pulled his weapon from underneath the pillow and fired several shots, police said. 

Orange stopped the assault and ran from the bedroom.  Both Jackson and Brown stayed in the room for a short time and then ran from the home.  Jackson went to a neighbor’s house and told Brown to leave the area.

Brown’s attorney, Tony Coleman, contacted Midwest City police, agreeing to bring his client in for an interview and to also supplying the gun used in the shooting.  Thursday afternoon, investigators met with Brown and he confirmed the same story Jackson relayed and surrendered a .45 caliber handgun.  Both Jackson and Brown said the reason for being untruthful was fear of retribution by members of Orange’s family or friends. 

Orange has an extensive arrest record and previous incidents of domestic violence against Jackson, according to police. 

“Even though it took some time to get the true information in this case, it doesn’t alter the fact that Isaiah Orange forcibly entered an occupied residence at 1 a.m. in the morning armed with a loaded firearm with intent to commit a crime.  Furthermore, both Jackson and Brown were in fear of their life by their own admissions and took action to protect themselves,” Chief Brandon Clabes said.

“The state statue is very clear that you can defend yourself inside your own home under these circumstances.  Obviously, we will present this case to the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s office for complete review and disposition,” Clabes said.
