OKC To Discuss Deal With Chickasaw Nation On American Indian Museum

The fate of the troubled American Indian Cultural Center and Museum will be decided on Tuesday.

The hope is it will finally be finished. And to do that, the City must agree to a deal that showcases its partnership with the Chickasaw Nation. The deadline for that deal is Tuesday.

Back in December, the nation offered to help Oklahoma City after the state passed legislation to give the project to the City. As it stands right now, the project has been in the works for over 20 years and has sat idle since 2012. That's when lawmakers stopped funding because the price tag got too high.

Since it's about $30 million over what donors promised, the Chickasaw nation has offered to help with some of the cost if the City give it rights to develop the surrounding area. So that is the deal the city must agree to at Tuesday morning’s city council meeting -- exactly how this partnership will work.

We have looked over parts of the proposal. It states the City must have this center opened to the public by July 1, 2020.
