Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story labeled the new standards as "new Common Core." They are to replace Common Core.

Starting this week, Oklahoma lawmakers will address suggested changes to education standards written to replace the Common Core requirements.

Some are criticizing the new standards, saying they aren't specific enough. State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister appeared on 6 in the Morning Monday to discuss Common Core.

Hofmeister said hundreds of Oklahoma were involved in writing the standards which were delivered to the legislature February 1.

"Oklahomans are ready to go, and we deserve to have these standards written by Oklahomans and for Oklahomans," she told Rich Lenz.

Hofmeister said the standards are very clear and concise, and they are excited to move forward.
