Not even a trip outside of the country on Monday could slow down the Thunder’s momentum.
Oklahoma City demolished the Toronto Raptors, the East’s No. 2 seed, 119-100 at the Air Canada Center on Monday evening, perhaps earning its most impressive win of the season.
Russell Westbrook scored 26 points to go with 12 assists and 11 rebounds as he collected his 16th triple-double of the season. It’s the most triple-doubles in a season since Magic Johnson’s 17 in 1988-89. OKC (52-22) has now won eight straight games and has eight more to go until the postseason arrives.
Because the Thunder have essentially locked up the No. 3 seed in the West, the home stretch is all about developing momentum and finding their groove. If OKC can keep this kind of play up, it could crash the Warriors/Spurs party in the West playoffs.
Tuesday’s game promises to provide a few different challenges. Detroit (39-35) is currently sitting in the No. 8 playoff spot in the East and needs wins in the worst way. The Pistons are 24-13 at home and should give the Thunder a stiff test as OKC rolls into town on a back-to-back.
It should be a bit more challenging for the Thunder without the services of Kevin Durant and Serge Ibaka, who will rest on Tuesday night according to head coach Billy Donovan. Dion Waiters and Kyle Singler will fill in and get the start. Without the services of Ibaka in the post, it's possible Enes Kanter could get a lot of playing time down the stretch alongside Steven Adams.
