Oklahoma County investigators are waiting for the Oklahoma Medical Examiner's office to identify the body of a woman found near NE 32nd and Westminster Rd. and determine a cause of death.
Right now all they know is that it is the body of a young woman, possibly a teenager, and that she was found only wearing her pajamas.
Deputies arrived to the scene where the body was found shortly after 7:30 a.m. Thursday. Investigators received a 911 call from a neighbor who drove by and discovered the body lying among the weeds.
“First thing we need to do is identify who this person is,” said Mark Opgrande with the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office. “And that's going to go a long way in determining how they died.”
Those who live along this dead end dirt road were shocked and saddened to hear about the gruesome discovery so close to their homes.
“There are a couple homes that are back up on the street,” said Opgrande. “And we've talked with some of the neighbors out here to see if they saw anything within the last day or so that was suspicious.”
The man who found the body says he walks and drives up and down this dirt road every day and did not see anything out here the day before.
He did not want to go on camera, but says at first he thought the clothing he saw was just a piece of trash. But when he slowed down to take a closer look he realized it was a human being lying motionless in the ditch.
Now investigators are trying to determine when the body was dumped and how long she had been dead -- and whether anyone reported her missing.
Opgrande says the body showed no obvious signs of trauma.
The Oklahoma County Sheriff's office is checking with other law enforcement agencies around the metro to see if they had received any reports of any missing teenagers.
