A group of Oklahoma veterans got a special treat Sunday night at the Bruce Springsteen concert at Chesapeake Energy Arena.

The Bob Woodruff Foundation and Bruce Springsteen gave some veterans free tickets to the concert.

It’s an opportunity veteran Frank Vassar said he will never forget.

“I’m one of those guys that got a special chance and appreciate that,” said Vassar.

He is a retired Air Force Major, serving the country for nearly 25 years.

Vassar saw a lot during his time in Baghdad, Iraq. He was injured overseas too.

“I was in a complex attack there and I was lucky to walk away from that," he said. “Someone was shooting down at us and then we had a car bomb try to get us from the back.”

Vassar said adjusting back to normal life is tough, but moments like the Springsteen concert make a difference.

The Bob Woodruff Foundation told News 9 in a statement, “Bruce Springsteen has been a supporter of veterans through the Bob Woodruff Foundation for nearly a decade now, having performed at our annual Stand Up For Heroes each year. Music has such a healing power, and it’s been a pleasure bringing veterans like Frank to shows along the tour.”

“I thank everybody for understanding and appreciate them caring,” Vassar said.

He said Bruce Springsteen is one of his favorite artists and watching him alongside fellow veterans will make it a night to remember.
