It was a frightening situation for two girls getting ready for school Friday morning.  A man broke into their southeast OKC home after they refused to answer the door.

Oklahoma City police were able to catch that man shortly after they arrived.

He's now in jail, all because those girls were smart enough to call 911.

This happened just after 7 a.m. Friday, near SE 39th and I-35. The suspect ran around to the back of the house and used a shovel to shatter the back glass door in order to unlock the door and get inside.

The girls’ mother had already gone to work, so the girls, age 12 and 14, hid behind some clothes in their mother’s closet with the door closed.

They also called 911, who got police there as fast as they could. Police even helped the girls clean up the mess.

“I was like really scared,” said 14-year-old Andrea Gonzalez, who called 911. “And I wanted to cry but she told me to take deep breaths and stay calm and hide in the closet.

Police arrested Preston Hayes, 43, not far from the home.

Turns out Hayes grabbed the girls laptop and headphones and a couple of other things.  But all were returned.

The responding officers even helped the girls clean up all the broken glass. And the sisters have this message to the officers and the dispatcher who helped them.

“Thank you,” said Andrea and Evalyn Gonzalez. “They did a good job!”
