Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) announced they will cut another $10-million from their already deeply slashed budget for the 2016-2017 school year.

OKCPS Associate Superintendent Aurora Lora made the announcement Tuesday afternoon. The cuts, according to Lora, are part of a plan OKCPS has to save $30 million next year.

“Including today’s announcement, we have cut around $23-million from our budget for next year, and we must still cut $7 million more,” said Lora.

In order to make up the additional $7 million, the district is considering school consolidations, suspension of art and athletic programs and more job cuts.

“These are tough decisions because there are many items we are cutting that are important to our students’ education. Unfortunately our budget situation is so dire we are forced to make these difficult choices,” Lora said.
