One man is in custody overnight after police say he shot another man in a bar fight in northwest Oklahoma City.

Police say that the two men got into an altercation at Groovy's in the 7700 block of Mosteller Place. The fight escalated after they took it outside. That's when the suspect, later identified as 49-year-old Jay Silvernail, retrieved a gun from his car and shot the victim.

An armed witness at the bar was able to subdue the suspect until police arrived.

"They saw the fight happening, they saw that there was another gun involved, and apparently, they got a gun of their own and actually detained the shooter until police arrived," said Lt. Jeff Spruill with OKC police.

The victim was taken to OU Medical Center in critical condition. He has not been identified.

Silvernail was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on a complaint of assault with a deadly weapon. A bond has not been set.
