There are new details in an overnight shooting involving an Oklahoma City attorney. This is the second shooting within the past year in which Jay Silvernail has been involved. It happened just outside Groovy’s bar.
Not even 24 hours has passed since the incident, and not even a year has passed since the last time Silvernail pulled a gun on a former client and shot and killed him in self-defense. However, this time police are still trying to figure out if that's what happened again early Friday morning.
“When officers arrived they found a shooting victim there,” Oklahoma City Police MSgt. Gary Knight said. “That victim was transported to an area hospital where he remains at this time. He was seriously wounded.”
The victim rushed to the hospital, and Silvernail was detained at gunpoint by a witness before he was taken to the police department, questioned and then booked into jail.
“He was actually being held at gunpoint by another person there,” Knight said. “However, he was not making any attempt to flee.”
A woman who was with Silvernail said he was only trying to help and did nothing wrong.
“Jay was trying to keep some people from taking our friend,” Marsha Weaver said. “I think she’d probably been drugged. I didn't want her to get hurt. I didn't know these guys."
Weaver says she didn't know the man who approached their friend and neither did Silvernail.
News 9 stopped by Silvernail's office, but his staff was not aware of what happened. We also left a message with the attorney who represented Silvernail the last time he was involved in a shooting. He was never jailed in that case and this time around Weaver believes he shouldn't have been either.
“I tried to get her to go with me, and the people that she was standing there with didn’t want her to, and so Jay came to the rescue,” Weaver said.
