The White House honored one of Oklahoma's Own Monday morning.
The Midwest City officer who brought down a suspect inside a Walmart nearly three years ago was honored by the President. Midwest City police major David Huff is among 13 public safety officers awarded the Medal of Valor on Monday.
In June, 2013, Huff was hailed a hero for saving the life of a 2-year-old girl. She was being held captive at knife point by Sammie Wallce inside a Walmart.
Huff confronted Wallace, and then shot and killed him. That girl was Alicia Keating's daughter.
"When I heard the gunshot, I immediately thought he had killed her. I just started screaming and jerking and throwing my hands in the air," said Alicia Keating, the mother.
Major Huff received the honor for, "Uncommon poise in resolving a dangerous hostage situation." This is the highest national award for a public safety officer.
