Driver Dies When Truck Crashes Off Turner Turnpike, Catches Fire

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says one person is dead after a semi ran off the Turner Turnpike and caught fire.

The crash happened where I-44 crosses over Highway 66 in Sapulpa. Troopers said the semi was headed east when it crashed. They said a wheel of the truck's cab went up and over a wall and the truck then fell onto the roadway below.

The OHP initially shut down both eastbound lanes of the turnpike at about 3:30 a.m. As of 8 a.m., both eastbound lanes were re-opened but one westbound lane was still closed.

Troopers said after searching the truck's wreckage, they determine the driver was the only person killed.
