Emergency crews responded to a body found in NW Oklahoma City Friday afternoon.
Around 3:30 p.m., crews responded initially to a call of a possible drowning in the area NW 36th Street and I-44, which is near Will Rogers Park. Authorities blocked off the area at NW 36th Street and one the entrances of the park.
The Oklahoma City Fire Department confirmed that an adult body was found in a culvert that connects to the pond in the area.
First responders said it appeared the body had been there awhile.
Christy Watt and her family were at the park Friday getting ready for her wedding Saturday. “I was really surprised. We showed up for a brief wedding rehearsal and there are emergency vehicles everywhere,” Watt said.
Christy and her fiancé Ryan are planning to have the ceremony in a part of the park not far from where the body was found.
“It’s crazy we’ve been through here I don’t know how many times, you know, planning out the wedding and how many times did I walk past this pond and there was a dead body down in it somewhere?”
In the meantime, detectives will continue to look for more clues about what happened to the person found in the water.
And the wedding nearby will go on.
“Things like that happen and it’s not going to ruin my wedding. It’s unfortunate for the victim, but it is what it is,” Watt said.
