One of the best high school basketball players in state will be coming back to play in Oklahoma for his senior season.
Five-star Norman North guard Trae Young announced via his blog that he’d be returning to play with the Timberwolves instead of attending a prep school, and the news is relief to anyone that appreciates the greatness he brings to the Oklahoma prep scene.
Young is the No. 21 overall player in the ESPN 100 rankings, and considered attending either Montverde Academy (Florida) or Findlay Prep (Nevada).
After averaging 35.4 point per game to go with 8.2 assists, Young is being recruited heavily by schools such as Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, Stanford and Texas, but many locals are hoping Young opts to stay in-state and attend the University of Oklahoma.
Trae Young not going to prep school is a big deal...had he left Norman to prep, then Kentucky was almost certainly the pick

Young mentions in his blog that he talks with OU head coach Lon Kruger regularly and it’s well-known he’s attended plenty of OU practices and games over the years due to his close proximity. But the kicker with that situation is that Young claims that both he and Missouri product Michael Porter Jr. are a “package deal” when it comes to recruiting.

Porter’s dad, Michael Porter Sr., recently accepted an assistant coaching position at Washington, so many have speculated that the Huskies will have the upper hand in the recruiting process with Porter Jr., which could have some effect on Young’s decision.
That being said, Young still has plenty of time to make a decision on where he’ll play in college, but we do know for sure he’ll be spending his final year of high school in the Sooner State.
