A female student, who suffered multiple injuries from a blow to the face, is suing OU running back Joe Mixon, according to court documents filed in California.
Amelia Molitor is suing Mixon for damages for negligence, willful and wanton misconduct, punitive damages and intentional infliction of emotional distress as a result of an altercation inside a Campus Corner restaurant on July 25, 2014.
According to surveillance video that was not released to the public, Mixon punched Molitor with a closed fist after she slapped him during a heated exchange. Mixon was suspended from the football team for one year and he was charged with a misdemeanor count of an act resulting in gross injury.
Mixon accepted a plea deal and entered an Alford Plea in October 2014. As part of the deal, he accepted probation in lieu of a possible trial and jail time, but maintained his innocence.
According to the suit, Molitor is seeking compensation for her medical expenses, compensation for her "severe emotional distress, including, but not limited to, humiliation, embarrassment, anger, grief, anxiety, fright, horror, depression, disappointment, worry, distrust, and disconnect," and punitive damages.
The suit stated that Mixon's behavior was "willful, malicious, oppressive, despicable, and was carried out in conscious and reckless disregard of Molitor's."
The suit did not specify a dollar amount.
