Oklahoma City public schools are back in session on Monday. And with students headed back to class, AAA is warning drivers to stay alert.

Since Monday is the first day back to school for the largest school district in the state, there will be a lot of children out on the roads Monday morning.

AAA wants to warn drivers to stay alert for children walking or riding their bikes to school. AAA says nearly one-third of fatal pedestrian accidents involving children happen between 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Drivers should obey school zone speed limits, monitor blind spots while backing up and eliminate potential distractions, such as using cellphones, among other measures.

Nearly 46,000 students in the Oklahoma City district return to school on Monday. So drivers, be aware.
