Five-star point guard Trae Young and his father, former Texas Tech standout Ray Young, joined News 9’s Dean Blevins for a sit-down on the Oklahoma Ford Sports Blitz. The younger Young recently trimmed his list to six schools: Kansas, Kentucky, Washington, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.
“It came down to figuring out what was important in the recruitment process and we felt like the relationships we built with these coaches and the trust I feel like we have with these coaches was definitely one of the main reasons I decided to cut this list to six,” Young said.
Ray said he was excited Trae kept Texas Tech in the final six and admitted it was difficult calling some of the great college coaches and turning them down.

Trae divulged that he wants to contribute immediately and wants to go to a place where he can win. That would seem to point to a Kansas or Kentucky commitment, but Trae said Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are both in the thick of it.
“I love the fact of being home and playing for my home state school,” Young said.
“I’ve grown up in Norman, I’ve grown up an Oklahoma State fan. A lot of my family members have attended OSU. Growing up being a ball boy when Coach Capel was (at OU), Blake being there, just being able to look up to those guys, it’s been fun. So I can definitely see myself going to those schools here.”
