One person was found dead Wednesday inside a home in Spencer, Oklahoma, that caught fire.
Just before 12 p.m., firefighters were called out to a neighborhood near Main Street and Palmer Avenue. Crews arriving on scene reported seeing heavy smoke and some flames pouring from the roof of the home.
Firefighters entered the home to battle the blaze, and found a man inside, dead. So far that victim has not been identified by officials.
Neighbors say the man lived alone in the home and was elderly.
“It’s sad. I just hate to see him go,” said Douglas Sauer.
Sauer said he is a friend of the victim and has known him since 1981 when Sauer first moved to Spencer. He said he saw the man just two days ago.
“Spencer will miss him. He’s been here his whole life,” he said.
Spencer fire Chief Dale Griffith said there were a lot of items in the house so it is going to take a while to investigate to find out the cause.
The front end of the home was burnt inside out, but firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the back.
Griffith said the response time was three minutes.
Spencer Fire Department received mutual aid from Nicoma Park, Forest Park and Oklahoma City fire departments.
