The co-owner of Oklahoma City’s professional soccer franchise has big plans for a large chunk of land just south of Bricktown.

Oklahoma City Energy co-owner Bob Funk Jr. said he and his partners are working to acquire the old Producers Cooperative Plant.

He said they plan to transform the 37-acre property into a hotel, restaurant and entertainment district.

He said it will eventually include a Major League Soccer (MLS) complex.

“This property is in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City, and there are a lot of stakeholders that are involved in this as well, in terms of adjacent properties, with the Boathouse District, Bricktown, obviously, the new convention center, Chesapeake Arena, and we want to be considerate and inclusive,” he said.

The OKC Energy currently compete in the United Soccer League, which is just a notch below the MLS.

Mayor Mick Cornett said Funk’s plans are exciting.

“There’s still several things that have to fall into place for this project to become a reality. But the Funk organization is doing all the right things, and I think that everybody is crossing their fingers that someday it can happen,” he said.
