Norman Police confirm a person has died after being hit by a train near the point where James Garner Ave. turns into Jenkins Ave.
Police said just after 3 a.m. Monday, a male victim was struck after jumping in front of the train. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train engineer stated that he saw the victim lying in the middle of the tracks and began blowing the train’s horn. He said that the victim got up and moved to the side of the railroad tracks.
However, as the train approached the victim’s location, the engineer said that the victim jumped back in front of the train. Unable to stop in time, the train struck the victim. He was transported to OU Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.
The victim has not been identified. The incident remains under investigation.
