Detectives in Shawnee are trying to piece together the disturbing murder of a 91-year-old woman who was stabbed in the neck.

Detectives think an intruder killed Florence Fife in her home in the 1200 block of East Main street where she lived alone.

“We are hoping the public can give us some help on this one,” said Shawnee Police Detective Jason Crouch, who says there are signs of a forced entry into the home.

When Fife’s granddaughter didn’t hear from the 91-year-old Saturday, police say she drove to Shawnee and made this discovery around 9 p.m.

“It’s very scary,” said Christie Rickner, who watched police show up the home right across the street.

“It’s very unnerving to think that whenever did this is still around,” said an East Main St. neighbor who did not want to be identified.

The Shawnee Police Department is asking anyone with information about the murder to give them a call.
