A pickup truck driving on the wrong side of the I-235 collided with a semi just north of the Oklahoma River early Thursday morning.
The truck was traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-235 near the Dallas junction when it struck the semi hauling bottled water.
The semi then caught fire and one of the fuel tanks cracked, leaking diesel. Oklahoma City Fire contained the fire, which was only in the cab.
Storm Water Quality also responded to the scene because of the leaking diesel.
Both drivers of the respective vehicles were taken to the hospital and are in serious condition. The driver of the semi needed to be removed from the cab.
As of 5 a.m., the northbound I-35 off-ramp to westbound I-40 is closed and northbound I-235 just north of the river is narrowed to two lanes following an accident.
Crews anticipate the closure lasting several hours into the rush hour. Drivers should use I-35 or I-240 as alternate routes and expect delays during rush hour.
