The manhunt for Michael Vance is over and Vance is dead after a shootout with state troopers late last night.
No state troopers were injured here, but Michael Vance did shoot Dewey County Sheriff Clay Sander last night during this final stand.
Just after 9:30 p.m., Sunday, Sheriff Sander pulled over a truck in Leedey that was dragging something, not knowing that Vance was behind the wheel.
Sander was shot in the shoulder and elbow and sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Vance left that scene in the truck and made his was to Cemetery Road, about 7 miles north of Butler.
This is where four state troopers found him and opened fire. Vance did fire back but troopers shot him multiple times.
Based on Vance's comments and actions over the past week, law enforcement agencies were fully prepared to encounter violence, as multiple tactical units being used in last night's chase.
All this comes after eight days of searching for Vance and state troopers say Sunday they received the first viable tip from the public.
