OHP Releases Name Of Woman Killed In Head-On Crash On Keystone Dam

Two vehicles were involved in a fatal crash around 6 a.m. on Highway 151 at the Keystone Dam. The cars hit head-on just north of the dam in Tulsa County, OHP states.

There was at least one person in each car. Both vehicles were very badly damaged, and there were at least 10 emergency vehicles responding to the crash.

OHP has identified the fatality victim as Kristen Nicole Chappell.

Sand Springs and Keystone Fire Department used the jaws of life to free a person from a car that ended up on its side. Life Flight medical helicopter landed on the dam to take the survivor to the hospital. 

Sand Springs Fire Lieutenant Kyle Wayman said freeing a driver from wreckage is a delicate operation they train for.

"You've got to be really careful with everything that you move - that car's surrounded them," he said. "So anything you move - that you shouldn't move - could cause them some pain."

Their condition has not yet been released.

Chappell was in the second vehicle, a Honda Civic.

Troopers say debris from the wreck was scattered about a hundred feet in each direction. 

Park Rangers put in the water below the dam to contain a small amount of gas and oil from the crash that spilled into the water.

The highway was reopened after about four hours.  

Captain Brad Jimenez, Keystone Fire Department, has been a volunteer firefighter for eight years. He said the dam can be dangerous.

"We've probably seen more than 50 or 60 accidents out here in the past few years," he said.
