OU’s Jordan Woodard scored a career-high 28 points, but it wasn’t enough as Lon Kruger now falls to 4-1 all-time in games he’s coached inside of Chesapeake Energy Arena.
Oklahoma struggled out of the gates, missing their first six shots from behind the arc but managed to stay within striking distance by winning the battle at the free-throw line. A Christian James 3-pointer put the Sooners up three, and OU built up a lead as big as eight points, but Wichita State rallied to close the first half and pulled within two points at intermission.
Except for an emphatic tip-slam by Dante Buford, the Sooners’ offense struggled majorly in the second half. Christian Doolittle finished a layup to put OU up one point, but the Shockers reeled off a quick 10-to-0 run to go up 59-50.
While the Shockers were on fire, OU failed to make a field goal in over six minutes of game action as Wichita State held on for the win.
Daishon Smith came up clutch for the Shockers in the second half, scoring 13 points in the game while snatching the momentum when he dunked on Doolittle in the middle of the big Shockers’ run.
