Freshmen have had a huge impact on Brad Underwood’s first team at Oklahoma State. Against Tulsa, Lindy Waters hit the game winning jumper and Thomas Dziagwa sealed the victory with a pair of free throws but it was Brandon Averette who was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Monday.
Starting for the first time due to a Jawun Evans injury, Averette led the team with a career-high 17 points and added three rebounds, three assists and three steals in 37 minutes. For the season, he’s the fourth-highest scorer on the team (7.4 ppg) despite being eighth in minutes (14.6 mpg).
Up next for Averette and the Cowboys is a home date with Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Wednesday, an 8:00 p.m. CT tip.
