Lacey Swope: Make Your Own Pinhole Projector For Safe Solar Eclipse Viewing

Can't find glasses to safely watch the solar eclipse? Make your own pinhole projector with items you probably have in your house.

We're all excited about the solar eclipse coming up on Monday. If you don't have protective glasses to watch the eclipse, you're not out of luck. 

What you can do is make your own viewer. I used a cereal box. The hard part is eating all the cereal out of it.

Put a piece of white paper on the inside of one end so it lays flat. Then cut holes on the opposite end of the box. Cover one of the holes with a piece of aluminum foil. Use a tack or nail to make a small hole in the aluminum foil.

During the eclipse, stand with your back to the sun and line up the box so the sun shines through the hole into the box where it hits the white paper at the other end. Look in the other hole and you will see the shadow of the moon crossing in front of the sun. It's that simple.

You will get to watch the solar eclipse safely.
