Staff Sergeant Gary Montgomery says he served in the Army for 32 years and it’s always been his mission to help others. But after having his wallet stolen while he was at work, now he’s the one who needs help.
Oklahoma City Police say on the 27th around 10:30 A.M. off Sooner Road at the Apublix Self Storage, a man walked in and asked to use the restroom. Shown on security footage, Montgomery was on the phone at the time and told the man he would be right with him. The man then heads towards the bathroom, even opens the door, but within moments, the alleged thief snuck around Montgomery’s desk and reached into the shadows.
“Opened and closed the door for a sound effect, and then "tippy-toed" over to my billfold, "tippy-toed" back to the bathroom, closed the door. Said his wife was in the door so he left,” Montgomery says.
Montgomery says he is 100 percent disabled and does not hear well. He realized the wallet was missing about 10 to 20 minutes later and soon called police. Montgomery called the bank who reported the card had been used at a nearby Walmart and was charged a few hundred dollars. However, so much more is now missing that was inside of the billfold.
“Military id's, civilian id's, my VA id's, driver license, social security number,” Montgomery says.
He says he doesn’t normally have his wallet sitting out, but had planned on paying his son-in law's electric bill that day.
Cameras did get a good look at the alleged thief, and the car Montgomery says he got away in, but so far he has not been identified.
