The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is taking the lead in an officer-involved shooting investigation n Ponca City, officials said.
Officials told News 9, the incident began around 7 p.m. when officers initiated a short pursuit with a white truck driven by Larry Durbin. The pursuit ended when Durbin crashed into a fence near South 11th Street and East Ponca Avenue.
Officials said Durbin exited the vehicle and began to fire at the officer. The officer returned gunfire.
The passenger in Durbin's truck was shot and is being treated at a local hospital. No officers were injured, officials said.
Elise Goosey said she and her children were sleeping when they were startled awake. "I was sleeping on the couch with my little boy and heard about 5-6 gunshots he looked out and said ooooo cause there's a police car," Goosey said.
Durbin is in police custody.
The OSBI is now investigating the incident.
