We are getting our first look at the plans for the $89 million expansion at Will Rogers World Airport. Bids are expected go out next month and construction is expected to start in the first quarter of next year.

“We’ve had continued growth in the number of people flying,” said WRWA spokesperson Karen Carney.

Combine that with more carriers serving more destinations and WRWA says it has outgrown its current terminal.

Carney says only four new gates will be added in the expansion, but there will be space to for more if needed.

One new feature will be an open greeting space where you can watch planes take off and land without being a ticketed passenger. A bigger security area is also planned.

Last year, more than 3.9 million people flew in and out of Will Rogers World Airport, an airport record.
