What was going to be a routine traffic stop turned into a police pursuit that moved through three Oklahoma City-metro area cities on Monday, police said.
It started after 1 p.m. Monday, when a Valley Brook officer tried to initiate a traffic stop after a vehicle failed to yield to an emergency vehicle, according to the Norman Police Department. The vehicle then took off.
Norman police says during the course of the pursuit, the suspect fire multiple shots at officers. The suspect crashed the vehicle in the 1300 block of Creekside Drive and then led officers on a short foot chase.
Norman police says an officer took the suspect, now identified as 22-year-old Darion Keis-Koval Willhoite, into custody. Willhoite was booked into the Cleveland County Dentention Center on multiple complaints, including Felony Eluding, Assault and Battery with a Deadly Weapon and Possession of a Firearm after Previous Felony Conviction.
No injuries were reported following the chase and crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
